A Bergamo è possibile vivere forti emozioni per il turista, anche con poche ore a disposizione; se poi il tempo libero si allunga ad un giorno, è possibile partecipare ad interessanti eventi ed avvenimenti cittadini e concludere la gita con un evento eno-gastronomico.

Il tour di un solo giorno o poche ore, non può che cominciare, dopo una buona colazione, da Bergamo Alta, centro e borgo storico di antica origine, delimitata da un perimetro carrabile composto dalle mura venete, dai colli appena fuori da quest'ultime.

Accesso a città alta con autoveicoli privati

Per chi usa i veicoli è consigliato l’accesso da Porta S.Agostino. Se si prende subito a destra si può parcheggiare sulla via Fara e con un percorso in salita di circa 500 metri (via Porta Dipinta) si raggiunge l'estremità inferiore di Città Alta; oppure si può raggiungere il parcheggio a pagamento di P.zza Mercato Fieno, nel cuore della Città antica, si gira a sinistra raggiungendo l'estremità superiore, con il parcheggio libero sulle Mura in prossimità di Colle aperto o il pargheggio a pagamento di L.go S.Alessandro.

Accesso a città alta con mezzi pubblici

Funicolare di Bergamo

Usando i mezzi pubblici si può scegliere la funicolare che porta all'inizio inferiore di Città Alta o il Bus che va all'estremità opposta (da un punto all'altro circa 1 Km). Oppure il bus della linea 1 che parte dalla stazione FS e ferma anche a Porta Nuova.

Accesso a città alta per via pedonale

Alternativa per via pedonale è l’accesso, partendo dal Sentierone e percorrendo viale Vittorio Emanuele, attraverso la Porta S. Agostino; poi salita a sinistra lungo le mura per ca. 3 chilometri oppure a destra dal piazzale della fara percorrendo via Porta Dipinta per circa 500 metri.

Il percorso in Città Alta

Il percorso a piedi si può iniziare da una delle due estremità, a piedi si attraversa tutta Città Alta, percorrendo la "Corsarola" (via Colleoni Piazza Vecchia, via Gombito). Sguardo alle botteghe del centro storico e sosta in Piazza Vecchia con visita della Basilica di S.Maria Maggiore (1137) della Cattedrale (XV sec.) dedicata a S.Alessandro, della Cappella ove riposano le vestigia del grande Bartolomeo Colleoni (con sfregatina al simbolo “portafortuna”).

Si può poi salire a piedi sulla Torre Civica, meglio conosciuta come il Campanone (53 metri), per uno sguardo dall'alto del panorama. In occasione di mostre è possibile visitare il Palazzo della Ragione (XII sec.) con le sue capriate.

Dal centro storico si possono raggiungere, attraverso una delle scalette o vicoli le mura venete (1400), che cingono Bergamo alta, per uno sguardo mozzafiato sulla pianura. Di sicuro interesse la fortezza della Rocca con il suo parco delle rimembranze, il vicino museo storico, la Cittadella con il museo di scienze naturali e il museo archeologico.

And for those who have got one day to spend in our town, they can partecipate to interesting events or appreciate a wine and gastronomy event.
They can start their tour, after a good breakfast, from the Upper Town, historical heart of the city of ancient origin, all surrounded by the venetian ancient walls.

Access to the Upper Town by private vehicles.

For those who use their own car they can pass through Porta S.Agostino. After this point they can go on the right and park in Fara Park. Then take Porta Dipinta road and climb up to the top where they can start the tour of the City center; or they can reach the car parking in Mercato Fieno Square, very near the historical centre.
Another possibility is to park the car along the ancient walls (payment with coins).

Access to the Upper Town by public means of transport .
You can choose the funicolare which takes You from the Down Town (Viale Vittorio Emanuele) to the Upper town (Piazza Mercato delle Scarpe) or the Bus line 1 that, leaving from the Railways Station, stops at Largo Porta Nuuova and then goes up with a panoramic tour.

Leaving the Sentierone (center of the modern town) You can walk along Vittorio Emanuele Avenue and go up towards Porta S.Agostino; then turn on the left and walk along the ancient walls for about 3 Kilometers or , from Porta S.Agostino, turn on the right and after Fara Square take Porta Dipinta street on the left and walk for about 500 meters.

The tour on foot can start from one of the two extremities of the old town and You can cross all the Upper Town passing through the most important streets (Via Colleoni, Piazza vecchia, Via Gombito).


Have a look to the characteristic shops and stop in Piazza Vecchia where You can visit S.Maria Maggiore Church (XII century), the Cathedral dedicated to S.Alessandro (XV century) and Bartolomeo Colleoni Chapel.
You can also go up to the Civic Tower, better known as “Campanone” (53 m. high), where You can have a delightful view of the town (3 €, free for children).
During some exhibitions You can also visit Palazzo della Ragione (XII cent.)

You can reach the ancient walls climbing some stairs which link the down town to the upper town.

Another important place to visit is La Rocca with historical museum and la Cittadella Square with its Natural Sciences and Archeological museums and many different exhibitions.
